The Explorers Program: An Escorted Public Access Opportunity


Welcome to Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound’s escorted public access opportunity, The Explorers Program. We’re pleased to have you visit the island and hope the experience is a memorable one.

Please submit a request to visit below.

A SAMPLE SCHEDULE:

9:30AM:  Depart for Cathleen Stone Island from our Boston-side dock on the MV Outward Bound ferry
10AM:  Arrive at Cathleen Stone Island and gather with your escort at the welcome site
10:15AM:  Explore over 200 acres of Cathleen Stone Island woods, meadows, marshes, tide pools, and other natural environments and conservation areas (self-guided)
NOON:  Picnic & relax at the “Family Learning Zone” (self-provided lunch)
1:15PM:  Depart for the island-side ferry dock
1:30PM:  The MV Outward Bound ferry departs Cathleen Stone Island
2:00PM:  Arrive back at the Boston-side dock

WHAT TO PACK:

Bringing the right clothing is very important for your comfort and safety on Cathleen Stone Island. Almost everything your group will do involves being outdoors, so you should be prepared for all types of weather.

  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Loose fitting, non-restrictive t-shirt, or long sleeve shirt
  • Loose fitting, non-restrictive quick-dry pants, or shorts
  • Light Jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt (a warm, insulated jacket in Spring/Fall)
  • Waterproof Rain Jacket with hood
  • Day pack or backpack
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Baseball cap and/or sun-protective hat
